Geek Tattoo

You know you’re a geek if you get something geeky tattooed on your body during a pop culture convention.

You know you’re a dork if your body rejects part of the ink.

This spring, at FanX, Geeksterink was doing tattoos, so I decided to get my first one.  My sisters both have cute little hip arrows on their forearms, so I figured I’d get a geeky 8-bit arrow on mine.  I designed it on the computer, and sent it to the tattoo artist.

He was very professional, and clean, and everything was perfect.

It actually looked great, initially.

But then, it happened.  My body started to reject the ink.  In fact, you can kind of see it above in the arrowhead and the fletching, where the edges are starting to get weird and fuzzy.  Whatever was in that silver-grey and the red is BAD, yo.  Don’t do it.  I’d show you a picture of how it looked when I went to Urgent Care, but it’s gross.  Okay, I’ll show you but don’t say I didn’t warn you.  CLICK HERE TO SEE GROSS PICTURE.  Or take my word for it and don’t.  Long story short, it was not infected, the doctor had me take Benadryl instead of antibiotics and it cleared right up.  But not before it faded a lot.

Yup, this tattoo is less than six months old.  Haha.

So, there you go.  I’m not sure what the moral of the story is, I’m not a tattoo hater or anything, so I wouldn’t say “you’ll regret it for the rest of your life” or anything.  In fact, I don’t really even regret mine, I know it looks lame now, but it’s a funny story.  And I like funny stories.  I’m willing to endure a whole lot of discomfort for a social icebreaker.
